All the novices and the formation team of the novitiate have today concluded their summer holidays in Sicily.
We stayed in the Jesuit residence in Ragusa, where Fr Cesare Geroldi warmly welcomed us. The sense of spending a holiday time together is to live in a different context from the daily routine of the novitiate. We alternated days of leisure on the beach, visits to the beautiful towns of Scicli and Modica and Mount Etna and meetings with other Jesuits in Sicily, e.g. in the community of Catania.
Now begins the summer season, during which we are sent individually or in pairs, for service or simply to participate in Jesuit initiatives or other activities. These are not weeks of leisure and rest, but “experiments”, i.e., an opportunity to confront various realities that can challenge and help us grow. They can be summer camps with groups from the apostolates followed in Genoa during the year, stays in a ministry of the Society of Jesus or in other religious or social realities.
At the end of the summer each novice does a re-reading and evaluation of his various experiments to discover the gifts received and the things learned. It will certainly be a very rich time.
