Who says that in three days you can not make a five centuries long journey through the history of the Society of Jesus? We actually made it!
From November 24 to 26, lead by the “captain” F. Guglielmo Pireddu, we novices got into a “hot air balloon” for an adventure full of historical adrenaline.
We took off with the desire to discover and to focus objectively on the past of the Society of Jesus. For, as Marc Bloch once said, “it is only by understanding the past through the present that one can understand the actuality.”
In our journey we flew though the clear skies of the Society, rejoicing together with the missionaries in Paraguay and marveling of their “reducciones”, we felt closer to Matteo Ricci, encouraging him in his tough mission in China …
Flying over the world and seeing all the good things that God has done through the Jesuits, we felt the strong desire of becoming people at his complete service, being able to break away from it all to live as frontiersmen, with the courage to face every situation.
At one time, however, the sky clouds, the sun disappears, the rain falls over our balloon, we feel feelings of failure and live the drama of suppression. We have not succumbed to the wiles of the bad weather and we found a new spring, during which the society has grown in quality and in quantity. We learned that the maturation of a single and unique body is made only through the experience.
Finally, we came back with our feet on the ground. We were all happy and eager to enter even more deeply into the history of the Jesuits.
This adventure has brought us greater confidence in the Lord, knowing that he is always faithful to his promises, despite the difficulties that may be encountered.
