Which magazine does not have the section “Dear Psych”? We were very lucky: we did not have to write any email or letter because the psychologist came to us.
Not to solve complicated love stories or intricate childhood problems but to talk about religious vows (poverty, chastity, obedience) and their impact in our lives.
Yes, chastity, poverty and obedience are “made”, “pronounced”, but above all they are “lived”, so entering and evaluating one’s own (psychic-emotional) experience helps us to face this future perspective with greater tools . Each vote is strictly related to our inner needs: understanding these needs helps us to respond with greater awareness and maturity. Every need (security, to feel loved, to succeed, …) can become a springboard to devote ourselves to others as well as the abyss that captures us.
The novitiate thus becomes a propitious time in which to learn more and more about ourselves, listening to the voice of God and understanding more our brothers that, with their life (warts and all), interrogate us. This period is such an important moment to learn – helped by the Novice Master’s – how to discern among these voices what is truly the call of the Lord.
It was three days very meaningful for us and the experience we are living. We are thankful for this opportunity, that gave us relevant tools for grow in our spiritual life.
